Hello Knitters!  Today I would like to share the knitting pattern for this stockinette stripe tee — The Jeanie Tee!

I get so many requests for more t-shirt style knitting patterns so I wanted to share another unique and easy summer tee!

Summer is so easy and effortless and I think summer knits should be as well!  Although this top is worked flat, there are a lot fewer purl rows than you would think.  Since this tee alternates between stockinette and reverse stockinette stitch, only 4 out of every 10 rows are purl (crazy I know)!

The neckline, hem, and sleeves are also shaped very simply.  The neckline is actually the only part you have to do any finishing on, the rest is designed to be beautifully simple.

The yarn for this tee is LB Collections Cotton Jeans from Lion Brand Yarn.  LB Collection is Lion Brand’s premium yarn line and each yarn that I’ve used is amazingly luxurious but still reasonably priced.

I have partnered up with Lion Brand to offer this pattern as part of a kit. In this kit, you will receive all the yarn needed to knit this tee and a printed PDF of the pattern.  (You may also access the pattern without the kit for free at the bottom of this post or get the PDF here).

The color I have used is Natural Indigo.  This yarn is denim inspired (not actually denim like some yarns that are out there) — you get the denim look without the denim weight or stiffness!

Using a tapestry needle sew side seams starting at the bottom edge and working up. Stop 6.5, (7, 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5)” from the top to leave a 13, (14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19)” armhole opening. Repeat for other side seam.

Neckline:

Using the shorter circular needle, pick up sts starting at center front as follows:

4 sts at center stripe,

5 sts per stripe going up the right front,

10, (10, 12, 12, 13, 15, 15) sts along shoulder,

5 sts per stripe on angled part of back neckline,

4 sts per stripe on straight part of back neckline,

5 sts per stripe on angled part of back neckline,

10, (10, 12, 12, 13, 15, 15) sts along shoulder,

Join to work the neckline in round. Knit 3 rounds. Cast off loosely in knit.

  1. This is so cute! Thank you for sharing the pattern. I think the way you work sideways is genius. I am thinking I might need the sleeves to be a tiny bit longer, do you think it might work to pick up stitches around and add another few rounds? Thanks!

    1. I’m so glad you like it! Yes – you could easily do that. You could do it in a similar way as the neckline and I think it would look quite nice!

    1. The pattern is available for free on the webpage if you keep scrolling down. The 3.99 is for the ad-free, printable version 🙂

  2. Do you think I could make it a tad longer? If so, how much extra yarn would I need? Would it be more complicated than just adding several inches worth of rows to back and front?

    1. Hi Angela! You could easily make it a tad longer. Keep in mind, I am 6′ tall so although it seems a bit short, it is actually industry standard length! I have the dimensions laid out in the pattern. Depending on how much longer you would like to make it, I would say get the yarn amount required to make one size larger. This may be the same amount of yarn depending on the size. To make it a bit longer just add more stitches to the back and front 🙂 Hope this helps!

  3. I have a question about changing the width. Since we are knitting side to side, te only way to increase the width is by increasing number of rows?not sure how else to make it wider.

  4. Help please. I don’t understand this line “Starting at the bottom edge of the back” I finished the previous row at the neck. Is it the other end of that row?

    1. Yes, this means you begin at the opposite end, what will become the bottom edge of the back piece. You join the two body pieces back together at this point to work the entire piece together again!
