The January Socks Knitting Pattern
Introducing: The January Socks Knitting Pattern
Socks are one of my absolute favorite thing to knit for myself. They feel like such a guilty pleasure because they are so luxurious. Between the time it takes to knit, the price of the yarn & pattern, and the teeny tiny size of the stitches, they are actually quite impractical. While their value is difficult to explain to a non knitter, to me they are priceless!
This year I decided to begin a fun project, I’m calling it the Monthly Sock Series. Near the beginning of each month I will release a sock pattern that vibes with that time of the year. That is why these socks are called the January Socks, they are the first in a year long series of sock patterns!

Inspiration
My inspiration for these socks actually comes from the lace trimmed socks my mom used to dress me in as a child. I’m sure you know the ones, they seemed to be everywhere in the 90s!
If you live somewhere cold and snowy you know that it’s pretty hard to look fancy in snow boots. Or know the other option is wearing nice shoes but having your feet be cold. Basically with a harsh winter you can either be cute or comfortable, not both!
Next year I’m hoping to wear these socks to wintertime parties where I want to dress up a bit. I think they would look so cute at an event with formal shoes heels or loafers and at parties where you need to take your shoes off… win-win!
The Design
These socks begin with a provisional cast on and are knit from the top/cuff, down. After you’ve completed the foot, you will work the cuff by picking up the stitches from the provisional cast on edge and knitting the cuff inside-out so that when you fold it over, the right side will be facing.
The January Socks knitting pattern is written for both the magic loop technique and double pointed needles so you can knit in which ever style is most comfortable to you.
These socks are made with a German Short Row heel [tutorial linked HERE] but you can easily sub for the heel technique of your choice.
This knitting pattern is designed in 4 sizes: S, (M, L, XL) to fit women’s US shoe sizes 3-12 and men’s US shoe sizes 6-14.
Materials
100g (400-450 yards) Fingering weight yarn (shown in KnitPicks Stroll Glimmer yarn in Bare)
Size US 1 (2.25 mm) circular needle for Magic Loop Technique OR Double Pointed Needles
Scrap yarn of similar weight (for provisional cast on)
Tapestry needle to weave in ends
The yarn that I used is KnitPicks Stroll Glimmer in Undyed/bare [linked HERE]. I love this yarn because its extremely affordable and contains 5% stelina for a bit of sparkle. They actually stock it on Amazon too which is super convenient if you are looking to make these ASAP [linked HERE].
Any sock yarn will work so choose a color that is fun and brings you joy! KnitPicks has a lot of beautiful affordable options [linked HERE] but indie dyers and local yarn stores also have great options.
