Knitting for Charity: Animals in Need
One thing that I've noticed in the knitting community is that many people would like to knit for charity, but don't always know how. Where to donate? What to donate?
I wanted to answer some of these questions by putting together a list of charities and organizations in search of hand-knit or crocheted items.
In this post, I will share ways to donate to charities that have to do with animals in need.
Comfort for Critters is a volunteer program that creates free handmade blankets to comfort homeless pets living in animal shelters across the US. When the pets are adopted, their blanket goes with them and provides something familiar as they adjust to their new home.
This organization is committed to helping wildlife in Australia. One of the things this charity needs is knit or seen pouches for orphaned kangaroos and other marsupials.
This organization is asking for knitted or crocheted leggings for animals who suffer from limb deformity/paralysis to protect them from ulcerations and assist with walking.
The Snuggles Project is accepting knit and crocheted items to help calm homeless animals and animals in shelters.
This organization makes mats to help make shelter cats more comfortable. They also accept leftover yarn donations to make these pads.
This list is by no means comprehensive, but is meant to introduce crafters to new charities and organizations accepting handmade items. Local shelters, hospitals, hospice centers, nursing homes, and churches are all other ways you can get involved.
I hope this list has brought you some joy and introduced you to a new charity or two.
