Crochet Christmas Tree Collar Pattern and Tutorial

Hello lovelies! I hope you all are having a wonderful holiday season. Since we are spending so much time at home this year, we've been working a little harder to make the holidays feel cozy and special. One thing that really cozies up our space is this super cute crochet Christmas Tree Collar!

Something about homemade Christmas decor is just so special. As a kid, I loved looking through all of our decorations with my family. Seeing things from previous years is so fun and knowing that it was made by hand and with love really adds something magical.

Christmas Tree Collar Design

This Christmas tree collar is amazingly easy to make. You barely even need to know how to crochet. Initially, I wanted this tree collar to be knit, but working it in crochet makes it extra dense so its able to stand up on its own!

Crochet Pattern

Without further ado, here is the crochet Christmas tree collar pattern! (Keep scrolling down for the video tutorial or watch it on YouTube HERE)

Materials

  • About 180-200 yds Jumbo Yarn (Note: I used 11 balls of Big Twist Ribbon Yarn from Joann Fabrics)
  • Size US 50 / 25mm Crochet Hook (or hook size recommended if substituting yarn)

Size

This tree collar is designed to have a 26" diameter and 12" tall, and taper slightly inward towards the top. To make your tree collar larger or smaller, simply work a longer or shorter foundation chain.

Abbreviations

Ch = chain stitch

SC = single crochet stitch

slst = slip stitch

sp = space

st = stitch

Crochet Pattern

Ch 52 sts

Row 1: In 3rd ch from hook, SC into the 3rd loop. SC into each 3rd loop across row.

Round 2: Now, you will join to work in round. Arrange your work into a circle, careful not to twist, slst into the ch2 sp to join, ch2, SC into the V below the first st, SC into the V below each st to end of round. (for extra help finding the V, check out the video below). Slst in ch2 sp to join.

3: Ch2, skip the first st, SC into the V below each st to end of round. Slst in ch2 sp to join.

4: Ch2, SC into the V below each st to end of round. Slst in ch2 sp to join.

Repeat rounds 3-4 until tree collar is about 12" tall. You may work more or less at this point to make your tree skirt taller or shorter.

To finish, weave in all ends toward the inside of the tree collar.
