- 4 skeins / 744 yards (680 meters) Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton (shown in Coffee Beans)
- Size US I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook
- Removable stitch markers
- Tapestry Needle to weave in ends
Notes
- Turning chain sts will not count as the first st of the row.
- You will place a M at the center point of each row. When you come to this M on the next row, remove it and replace as directed.
Finished Dimensions
This pattern makes a uniquely shaped triangle shawl that is 7’ long from corner to corner and 27” wide at the thickest point.

11 sts and 16 rows = 4” in single crochet

This pattern is written using U.S. English terminology.
[ ] = work instructions in brackets as many times as directed
Beg = beginning
Cable st = (cable stitch, also denoted as 3-dc cross over) skip the next st, DC in the next 2 sts, working over the 2DCs, YO and insert hook into the skipped st, pull up a loop to the height of the DC sts, YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through final 2 loops. This will create a long DC that stretches around the first 2DC sts worked.
Cable dec = (cable stitch decrease) skip the next st, work a DC in the next st until 2 loops remain, keeping these 2 loops on your hook, work another DC into the next st, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through all three loops on hook. Then, work a long DC into the skipped st as done in a normal cable st. (one stitch decreased).
Ch = chain stitch
DC = double crochet
Inc = (increase) Work 2 single crochet stitches into the next st to increase
M = marker
MR = magic ring
PM = place marker
Rd = round
SC = single crochet
SC3tog = (single crochet 3 together) pull up one loop in each of the next 3 sts, YO and pull through all 4 loops on your hook. (2 stitches decreased).

Seaside Shawl Crochet Pattern
Row 1: Ch 218. Beg in the 3rd ch from hook and working into the bar behind the ch, SC3tog, SC 104, inc, PM, inc, SC to last 3, SC3tog. Ch2 and turn. [214 sts].
2: SC3tog, SC to 1 before M, inc, PM, inc, SC to last 3, SC3tog. Ch2 and turn. [212 sts].
3: as row 2. Ch3 and turn. [210 sts].
4: cable dec, cable dec, cable st to M, ch1, PM, ch1, cable st to last 6, cable dec, cable dec. [208 sts].
5-9: as 2. Ch3 and turn on last row. [198 sts].
10: as 4. [196 sts].
11-24: as 2. Ch3 and turn on the last row. [168 sts].
25-45: as rows 4-24. [126 sts].
46-52: as rows 4-10. [112 sts].
53-55: as row 2. On the last row, ch1 and turn. [106 sts].
56: slst to 1 before M, slst, ch1, slst to end of row, ch1, turn sideways and continue working down the edge of your work, working 1 slst in each SC row and 2 slst in each DC row, ch1, turn sideways, slst along each beginning chain st, ch1, turn sideways and work up the opposite side, ch1, slst with first st to join. Cut yarn leaving a tail to weave in.
Finishing:
Weave in all ends. Block by soaking in warm water and laying flat to dry.
