Plaid Shift Dress

Slightly oversize shift dresses that are still flattering are hard to come by but can so easily be dressed up or dressed down and are just oh so comfortable. I bought this super soft flannel and the inspiration for this dress just came with it.

Because flannel in dress-form can be a bit old fashioned looking, I designed this dress to be shorter with long, comfortable sleeves to add a bit of edginess. Because flannel doesn't normally have stretch, I added a zipper to the back of this dress to get on and off easier. I am so excited to wear this dress with tights, boots, winter coats and accessories all fall and winter long.

When choosing a plaid for your dress, make sure that it is a thicker, apparel plaid. I found his exact plaid at Joann Fabrics but the downside of it is that it is dry clean only. Shirting flannel could work but probably won't leave a finished look.  You will need about 2.5 yards, depending on sizing.

Once you have your supplies you can begin cutting your fabric. Pay close attention to all measurements as flannel is less forgiving than stretchier fabric. Line up stripes if possible.

Once your fabric is cut you may begin assembly! Follow the diagram below.
